Unemployment Rates Stabilize in August
From the Oct 7, 2025 e-EditionAfter a summer of increasing unemployment, the tri-counties experienced a respite in August. Carroll, Henry and Weakley counties’ unemployment rates all decreased, making them on par with the national rate (4.5%) but higher than Tennessee’s overall rate (3.6%).
Carroll County had an unemployment rate of 4.5 percent in August, which is a 1.2 percent point decrease from July’s rate of 5.7 percent unemployment. Of Carroll County’s 12,197-person labor force, 544 were unemployed in August.
Carroll County’s August 2025 rate is 0.2 percent points higher than last year’s rate of 4.3 percent unemployment.
In Henry County, 3.9 percent of the labor force population was unemployed in August. This is a 1.1 percent point decrease from July’s rate of 5.0 percent. Of Henry County’s 13,150-person labor force, 518 were unemployed in August.
Henry County’s August 2025 rate is 0.1 percent lower than last year’s rate of 4.0 percent unemployment.
Weakley County’s unemployment rate more than halved in August, decreasing from an 8.5 percent rate in July to 4.2 percent unemployment in August. Of Weakley County’s 13,967-person labor force, 580 were unemployed in August.
Weakley County’s August 2025 rate is 0.5 percent points less than last year’s rate of 4.7 percent unemployment.
Unemployment rates decreased in all of Tennessee’s 95 counties in August.
Counties with the lowest unemployment rates were Sevier (2.7%), Cheatham (2.8%) and Williamson (2.9%) counties.
Counties with the highest unemployment rates were Perry (5.4%), Hardeman (5.1%), Lauderdale (5.1%) and Meigs (5.1%).
