Lady Bulldogs Top Lake County, Bulldogs Fall

GLEASON (February 10) — Gleason High School hosted Lake County Tuesday for a pair of district basketball contests. The Lady Bulldogs shook off an early deficit to claim a 52-42 victory. The Falcons used an early lead and a late push to seal a 64-53 win.

The Lady Falcons had a 12-9 edge after the opening frame, led by Yharia Bolden with six points. Laken Chism, Mariah Valentine and Jordyn Burpo each had a pair. Madi Dean led Gleason with six points on a pair of three-pointers, and Hylan Leach also hit a three.

The Lady Bulldogs took the lead with a 19-12 advantage in the second quarter, led by Karlie Wilson with seven points, including a three. Dean again scored six on a pair of threes, and Leach and Ahmyre Allen each hit a three. Chism scored all 12 Lake County points with a pair of three-pointers. At the half, the Lady Bulldogs led 28-24.

Gleason enjoyed a 12-9 tilt in the third, led by Allen with five points, including a three. Leach scored four with a three-pointer, and Kadence Witherspoon also hit a three. Valentine had all nine Lady Falcon points, including a three. Entering the final frame, Gleason led 40-33.

The Lady Bulldogs capped the win with another 12-9 advantage in the fourth, led by Leach with eight points, including a three. Allen and Wilson each added a pair. Valentine scored six for Lake County with a three. Chism added a pair, and Destany Mullins hit a free throw.

Lady Bulldog Hylan Leach led all scorers with 18 points, including four three-pointers. Madi Dean scored a dozen on four threes. Ahmyre Allen had ten points with a pair of threes.

Mariah Valentine led the Lady Falcons with 17 points, including a pair of threes. Laken Chism scored 16 with a pair of three-pointers.

Falcons 64, Bulldogs 53

Lake County had a 16-13 lead after the first frame, led by Jay Ricks with six points. Xander Hertel scored four, and Aikee Ward and Jax Poole each hit a three-pointer. Bulldog Parker Morgan scored five with a three. Brody Sanders had four points, and Kade Sawyers and Drake Lehmkuhl each had a pair.

The Falcons had a 14-9 advantage in the second quarter, led by J'braylon Mays and Ricks with five points each, Mays with a three-pointer. Poole and Hertel each added a pair. Sawyers led Gleason with six points. Sanders added a pair, and Lehmkuhl hit a free throw. At the half, Lake County led 30-22.

The Bulldogs had a 14-13 edge in the third, led by Sawyers with five points with a three. Ashton Morgan scored three points. Lehmkuhl, Sanders and Brock Dilday each had a pair. Falcon Mark Owens scored five. Mays hit a three-pointer, Hertel and Ka'Devon Gross each had a pair, and Poole hit a freebie. Heading into the final frame, the Falcons led 43-36.

Lake County sealed the win with a 21-17 tilt in the fourth, led by Poole with nine points. Ricks scored six and Mays had three points. Gross added a pair, and Owens hit a free throw. Sawyers scored eight for Gleason with a pair of threes. Lehmkuhl had five with a three, and Sanders scored four points.

Bulldog Kade Sawyers led all scorers with 21 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Brody Sanders scored 12 points, and Drake Lehmkuhl had ten with a three.

Jay Ricks led the Falcons with 17 points. Jax Poole scored 15 with a three. J'braylon Mays had 11 points with a pair of three-pointers.
