Valentin Gross
1938 - 2025
From the Sep 9, 2025 e-EditionMcKENZIE, Tenn. — Valentin Gross, 86, died on September 3rd, 2025.
He was born on November 3, 1938, in Krivoj Rog, Ukraine, and came to the United States in 1950 with his mother (Tatiana), Father (Pius), Sister (Erika-Angelo Christofilis), and Brother (Walter), at the age of 12. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961 and served for two years, leaving as a Specialist (E4) in the 1st Armored Division (Old Ironsides) out of Fort Hood, Texas.
After returning to civilian life, he became a printer by trade and met the love of his life, Rebecca (Leeper), while working at Burgess Envelope Company. Together, they began a family with two daughters, Tiana and Monica, all while starting his own business in the garage of their home in Burr Ridge, Illinois. Becky joined him in the business, and Val Gross Printing eventually grew large enough to move into its own building in Lyons, Illinois. The business became their life and his passion for over 40 years.
When Val wasn’t working, he and Becky enjoyed time at Braidwood Recreation Club, camping and fishing. They eventually retired, fell in love with the home and neighbors of McKenzie, Tennessee, and remained there until their final days.
Val was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister. He is survived by his brother, Walter (Susan) of Gassville, Arkansas; his daughters, Tiana (Scott) Shelton of Sebree, KY, and Monica (Roger Wampler) Gross of Ashland City, Tenn.; his grandson, Anthony Ramsey of Clarksville, Tenn.; and his great-grandsons, Luke and Duncan Ramsey.
Family and friends will be invited to a ceremony & Celebration of Life at a later date.
Val was a proud member of The American Legion and flew an American flag every day. He requested that others honor his memory and other Veterans by doing the same. Donations may also be made to veterans' organizations in his name.
