War Eagles Crush Crusaders, 21-10

JACKSON (April 2) — Liberty Tech hosted West Carroll High School Thursday for a baseball contest. The visiting War Eagles scored early and often in a dominant, 21-10 victory over the Crusaders in five innings.

West Carroll set the tone with eight runs in the top of the first frame. Liberty answered with a pair in the home half. The War Eagles added nine runs in the second, and the Crusaders responded with three. West Carroll plated three in the top of the third, and Liberty pushed four across in the bottom half. Each team added a run in the fifth.

War Eagle Caleb Vermillion was 2-for-5 with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored. Harlan Hames was 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Briggs West was 2-for-4 with a walk, four RBIs, a run scored and two stolen bases. J.W. Rushing was 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Ethan Baker was 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. R.Q. Thompson was 2-for-5 with an RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base. Eli Bryant was 1-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and two runs scored. Sawyer Jackson was 0-for-1 with four walks, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Jason Roberts was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Briggs West got the start for West Carroll, allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits while walking one and striking out four in two and two-thirds innings. Ethan Walls pitched a third of an inning of relief, allowing two unearned runs on one hit while walking one and striking out one. Harlan Hames threw the final two frames, allowing one unearned run on no hits while walking two and striking out four.
