ATWOOD (September 20) — Giving up three straight touchdowns right in the middle of the game, ended up costing West Carroll, as the War Eagles suffered their first loss in Region 6-1A play.

Houston County knocked off West Carroll 34-14 in Week 5 action.

West Carroll (3-2, 1-1 6-1A) does not play on Friday as it enjoys its bye week this season, but the team returns to action Oct. 4 at McEwen.

Jayden Milton rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown on 27 carries, and he has now recorded 1,362 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground.

The difference maker for Houston County was running back Preston Mitchell as Mitchell rushed for 220 yards and four touchdowns.

Mitchell scored his first touchdown with 3:09 remaining in the first quarter on a four-yard run as Houston County took a 7-0 lead.

West Carroll did answer as Milton scored on a two-yard run with two seconds off the clock in the second quarter to cut Houston County’s lead to 7-6.

But that is when the Fighting Irish went on their run. Mitchell scored on touchdown runs of 28 yards and 61 yards, while Robert Kizer threw a 58-yard touchdown to Malaki Cary. Those three touchdowns came between the 9:23 mark of the second quarter to the 11:50 mark of the third quarter to give Houston County the 28-6 lead.

The War Eagles answered back as Ben Pruitt connected with Quamarion Patterson for a 72-yard touchdown pass. Pruitt hit Jace Hammett on the two-point conversion, and West Carroll cut Houston County’s lead to 28-14 with three minutes to play in the third quarter.

But with 1:54 to play in the third quarter, Houston County scored on a 28-yard run by Mitchell for the 34-14 lead.

Pruitt completed 8-of-15 passes for 144 yards, while Patterson caught three passes for 117 yards.
