War Eagles Lose Thriller to Sacred Heart, Ladies Coast

ATWOOD (December 19) — West Carroll hosted Sacred Heart of Jesus High School (Jackson) for a pair of non-district basketball contests Thursday as students and teachers began their Christmas break. The Lady War Eagles shook off a slow start to rout the Lady Knights 58-37.
The War Eagles stormed back from an eight-point halftime deficit to take a lead in the third, but the Knights rallied in the fourth. The visitors tied the game at 54-54 with a free throw with three minutes to play, then hit three more in the final half-minute for a 57-54 lead. A desperation three by Jeremiah Bryant from near half court as time expired had everyone holding their breath as it hit the rim, but it bounced off and Sacred Heart had the win.
West Carroll Lady War Eagles 58, Sacred Heart Lady Knights 37
The Lady War Eagles had a 10-6 edge after the opening frame, led by Tatym Keymon with four points. Denver Brooks and Amaya Thompson each had a pair, and Macey Cunningham and Erin Norman each hit a free throw. Lady Knight Jasmine Blankenship scored four points, and Maliyah Hughes had a pair.
West Carroll opened up the lead with a 21-6 advantage in the second quarter, led by Alyssa Butler and Macey Cunningham with eight points each. Butler had a pair of three-pointers, and Cunningham had one. Keymon also hit a three, and Norman added a pair. Blankenship hit a three for Sacred Heart, Asia Thompson had a pair, and Hughes hit a freebie. At the half, West Carroll led 31-12.
The Lady War Eagles doubled up the Lady Knights 18-9 in the third, led by M. Cunningham with six points, including a three. Butler and Gracie Cunningham each hit a three, and Brooks, Keymon and Mia Jones each had a pair. Hughes led Sacred Heart with five points. Teiona Wedley scored three points, and Grace Creasy hit a free throw. Entering the final frame, West Carroll led 49-21.
The Lady Knights rallied 16-9 in the fourth for a closer final score, led by Blankenship and Emily Gill with six points each. Gill had a pair of threes, and Blankenship had one. Hughes and Wedley each added a pair. Keymon led West Carroll with six points. Jones added a pair, and G. Cunningham hit a freebie.
Lady War Eagles Macey Cunningham and Tatym Keymon led all scorers with 15 points each. Cunningham had a pair of three-pointers, and Keymon had one. Alyssa Butler scored eleven points with a trio of threes.
Jasmine Blankenship led Sacred Heart with 13 points, including a pair of threes. Maliyah Hughes scored ten points.
Knights 57, War Eagles 54
The first frame was a 13-13 wash. Jalen Anglin led West Carroll with six points. Luke Moore scored five, and Josh Clark had a pair. Knight Xander Taylor scored nine points on a trio of threes, and Kendrick Beard and Dalton McIntyre each had a pair.
Sacred Heart took the lead with a 20-12 advantage in the second quarter, led by Xander Taylor with six points on a pair of threes. McIntyre scored five points, and Trey Trull had four. Beard hit a three-pointer, and Javion Greer had a pair. Moore led the War Eagles with seven points. Anglin scored three points, and Tyler Johnson had a pair. At the half, the Knights led 33-25.
West Carroll rallied 23-9 to take the lead in the third, led by Anglin and Clark with seven points each. Johnson scored six on a pair of threes, and Moore had three points. McIntyre led Sacred Heart with five points. Trull and Greer each added a pair. Heading into the final frame, the War Eagles led 48-42.
The Knights outscored West Carroll 15-6 in the fourth to claim the win. Greer and McIntyre each hit a three, and Taylor also scored three points. Beard, Trull and Will Keyl each had a pair. Anglin led the War Eagles with four, and Clark added a pair.
War Eagle Jalen Anglin led all scorers with 20 points. Luke Moore scored 15, and Josh Clark had eleven points.
Xander Taylor led Sacred Heart with 18 points, including five three-pointers. Dalton McIntyre scored 15 with a three.
