War Eagles Split Home-Away Set with Middleton
From the Apr 21, 2026 e-EditionATWOOD/MIDDLETON (April 13-14) — West Carroll High School baseball began the week with a home-away district set with Middleton. Monday, West Carroll hosted, but the visiting Tigers took the win in a high-scoring affair, 13-9. The War Eagles exacted revenge Tuesday on the road with a lopsided victory, 14-3.

In Monday's game, West Carroll struck first with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Middleton took the lead with three in the top of the third. The War Eagles scored one in the home half, then took the lead with three in the fourth. Middleton regained the edge with three runs in the fifth, then added three in the top of the sixth. West Carroll tied it with four in the home half, but the Tigers scored four in the seventh for the win.
War Eagle R.Q. Thompson was 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk, two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. J.W. Rushing was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Caleb Vermillion was 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Eli Bryant was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Harlan Hames was 1-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Jeremiah Petty was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Sawyer Jackson was 0-for-2 with two walks, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
Tiger Annyn Cardwell was 1-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Brody Elkins was 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Will Baker was 1-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Brody Cornelius was 1-for-3 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, an RBI and a run scored. Grayson Gladish was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Westen Ross was 1-for-4. Joseph Coupe was 0-for-3 with three walks and three runs scored. Christopher Wright was 0-for-1 with three walks, a run scored and a stolen base. Kamren Bumpus was 0-for-2 with two walks, three runs scored and a stolen base.
Brody Cornelius got the start for Middleton, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits while walking five and striking out two in four innings. Christopher Wright pitched the final three frames, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits while walking one and striking out one.
Ethan Baker started for West Carroll, allowing nine runs (two earned) on six hits while walking five and striking out five in six innings. Harlan Hames faced three batters, allowing three runs (two earned) on no hits and two walks. Sawyer Jackson pitched the final frame, allowing one unearned run on no hits with two walks.

On the road Tuesday, West Carroll struck first with three runs in the top of the first. Middleton answered with one in the home half. The War Eagles added a pair in the second, and the Tigers plated one. West Carroll pulled away with four in the third. Each team plated a run in the fourth, and the War Eagles scored four in the fifth to end the game early.
