War Eagles Trounce Tomcats, 24-8

BROWNSVILLE (March 26) — West Carroll High School baseball traveled to face Haywood Thursday. The visiting War Eagles scored early and often for a 24-8 victory in four innings.

West Carroll set the tone with 13 runs in the top of the first frame. The Tomcats answered with five in the home half. The War Eagles plated four in the second, and Haywood pushed across three. West Carroll scored a pair in the third and five in the fourth to end the game early.

War Eagle Sawyer Jackson was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, five RBIs and two runs scored. R.Q. Thompson was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, two RBIs, four runs scored and four stolen bases. Briggs West was 2-for-4 with a walk, three RBIs and two runs scored. Caleb Vermillion was 1-for-3 with a walk, four RBIs and four runs scored. Harlan Hames was 1-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. J.W. Rushing was 1-for-1. Ethan Baker was 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Jeremiah Petty was 0-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Eli Bryant was 0-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Harlan Hames got the start for West Carroll, allowing eight runs (five earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out three in an inning and a third. Ethan Baker pitched the final two and two-thirds innings, allowing no runs on two hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

J. Hines got the start for Haywood, recording no outs while allowing six runs (five earned) on no hits with three walks. J. Bond pitched four innings of relief, allowing 18 runs (ten earned) on nine hits while walking seven and striking out one.
