West Carroll Jr./Sr. High School hosted the Be Pro Be Proud Tour, a cutting-edge mobile workforce workshop to inspire students to explore high-demand, high-paying skilled trades careers. The tour, a state-of-the-art initiative in Tennessee, showcased hands-on, interactive exhibits designed to educate students about opportunities in fields such as welding, plumbing, robotics, and truck driving.

Housed in an 18-wheeler that transforms into an advanced virtual reality lab, the tour allowed students to test their skills in immersive simulations of real-world trades. Activities included operating heavy machinery, diagnosing diesel engines, and navigating 18-wheelers through virtual cityscapes.

Dr. Adam Douglas, Principal of West Carroll Jr./Sr. High School emphasized the importance of the visit, “Programs like Be Pro Be Proud open students’ eyes to pathways they might not have considered before. It connects education with the workforce, and that’s key for our students’ futures.”

The initiative is part of a statewide effort to address workforce shortages in skilled trades. According to Tennessee Department of Education data, these careers are crucial for the state’s infrastructure and economy. By participating in the Be Pro Be Proud Tour, students not only gained exposure to innovative tools but also learned about technical education pathways available through local colleges and training programs.
