West Carroll Seniors Take First Steps Toward College During Application Month
From the Sep 30, 2025 e-Edition
MARTIN (September 16) — West Carroll High School seniors are taking important steps toward their futures as part of Tennessee College Application & Exploration Month.
To support their journey, representatives from the University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM) recently visited campus to guide students through the college application process.
During the session, West Carroll seniors learned about the many opportunities available at UTM, including its wide range of programs of study and the application process itself. Sydney Roney, an admissions representative from UTM, walked students through how to apply, shared that application fees are waived or discounted during College Application Month and encouraged them to get a head start on building their future after graduation.
Students also explored scholarship opportunities such as merit-based awards, the Tennessee HOPE Scholarship (available to residents with a 21 ACT or 3.0 GPA) and need-based programs like UT Promise. Housing options, campus tours and preview days were also highlighted, with fall 2025 dates set for Saturday, October 4, and Saturday, November 1. These events give students and their families the chance to experience UTM’s campus life firsthand.
By the end of the visit, many West Carroll seniors had already started applications, checked important deadlines and asked questions about the path ahead. The visit marked another important step in West Carroll’s ongoing effort to prepare students for success beyond high school and ensure they graduate ready for college, careers and life.
