ATWOOD — A group of West Carroll High School students recently achieved industry-recognized food safety certifications, demonstrating their commitment to culinary excellence and career readiness.
Students in Mrs. Jennifer Lindsey’s Culinary Arts 2 class and Ms. Erin Lewis’s Nutrition class successfully completed the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe Food Handler certification program this week. The certification is a Level 2 industry credential valued in food-related occupations.
The ServSafe program covers essential food safety principles and foodborne illness prevention during food preparation. To earn certification, students completed an online course and passed a rigorous 45-question assessment, requiring a minimum score of 75 percent.
West Carroll students excelled, achieving an impressive average score of 88 percent on the exam.
“These certifications validate our students’ understanding of crucial food safety practices,” said Dr. Adam Douglas, principal of West Carroll High School. “It’s a significant accomplishment that will serve them well in their future careers.”
Certified students include Abby Higgs, Linda Murphy, Elissa King, Ethan Thompson, Maddison Janda, Amber Knight, Summer Spain, Brilye Mueller, Brianna Legget, Isabella Andre, Cambri Shumate, Makayla Bryant, Valerie Castro, Constance Schexnider, Sarah Wascher, and Karma Wilkey.
The Food Handler certification is just the beginning for these aspiring culinary professionals. Students in these courses will have the opportunity to pursue the more advanced ServSafe Manager level certification next spring, further enhancing their credentials in the food service industry.
West Carroll High School continues to offer students practical skills that can help them in future jobs or college studies.
