New at West Carroll Primary
Facility Updates, Playground Addition
From the Sep 16, 2025 e-Edition
ATWOOD — West Carroll Primary School began the 2025–26 school year with updates to staffing, building infrastructure and student play areas, part of a district-wide focus on supporting student safety, learning, and well-being.
New staff members were welcomed ahead of the first day of school. Ms. Katie Ann Waring, a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, joined the faculty as a first-grade teacher. Mrs. Jeanene Jones was named cafeteria manager and now oversees nutrition services. Teaching assistants Taelor Byers, Amanda Trevathan and Kelly Teague were added to help provide smaller group learning. The custodial team also expanded with the addition of Ms. Crystal Godinez. Returning staff marked the start of the year by welcoming new colleagues with small gifts and refreshments.
Outside the classroom, students returned to a new playground feature known as the “bouncy bus,” a bus-shaped structure mounted on springs. The addition gives students a playful space for movement and imagination during recess.
Building improvements are also near completion. Upgrades include the installation of new windows and doors, along with the construction of a secure foyer at the school’s main entrance. The safety-focused renovation required temporary relocation of registration, which was held at West Carroll Junior/Senior High School.
The start-of-year updates reflect West Carroll Primary’s focus on maintaining a safe, structured and student-centered environment. School leaders anticipate a productive year ahead supported by new staff, improved facilities and engaging opportunities for students.
