ATWOOD (May 2) — West Carroll School District Board of Education bid farewell to two retirees on Thursday, May 2.

Preston Caldwell, director of schools, presented each with a plaque and thanked them for a job well done.

Sherry Cockrill retired with 39 years. She was a teacher and later guidance counselor at West Carroll Elementary School in Trezevant. She said she worked her entire teaching career in one building. She said teachers are known for influencing children but added they also have an influence on their teachers. She noted she taught three generations of children. She thanked the board for allowing her to teach the children of West Carroll. Dr. Jessica Williams, principal at West Carroll Elementary, thanked Mrs. Cockrill for her support, dedication, and a lasting legacy at the school.

Kay Story retired after 18 years as a school system custodian. During her tenure, she worked in all three school sites.

Mrs. Story said she is thankful for working with such good people and has enjoyed her work.

West Carroll Primary School Principal Jackie Wester said Mrs. Story is more than a custodian. She graciously serves wherever needed. She has watched classrooms, graded papers, and worked throughout the building.
