From the Dec 23, 2024 e-Edition
West Carroll Elementary School recently celebrated a “Candyland Christmas” to reward students who demonstrated exemplary behavior during the second nine weeks of the school year. The event was packed with exciting activities, fostering both fun and community spirit.
Students rotated through a variety of stations, each offering a unique experience. The day included fire truck tours and demonstrations led by the Trezevant, Atwood, and McLemoresville fire departments. Mr. Van Blackketter, a firefighter, captivated students with stories of his work and answered their questions.
The cafeteria transformed into a gaming hub with card and board games, while the library and nearby classroom offered cozy holiday charm with pictures with Santa and the Grinch, accompanied by hot chocolate and marshmallows. A Christmas edition of “Name That Tune” provided lively entertainment, showcasing students’ enthusiasm for holiday music.
In the gymnasium, Mrs. Leslie Chappell, the school’s PE teacher, energized students with Christmas dodgeball and games like “capture the present”. Meanwhile, classrooms became centers of creativity with holiday crafts, and students tackled a winter-themed escape room challenge.
A highlight of the day was the school’s new inflatable projector screen, purchased through book fair funds raised by Mrs. Pat Hudgins. Students enjoyed a festive movie and popcorn, taking a well-deserved break from their bustling activities.
Hooker Farms added a special touch to the event with a delightful petting zoo, where students interacted with animals like llamas, goats, rabbits, and sheep.
The staff also joined in the festivities with a hallway decorating competition, adding to the holiday cheer throughout the school.
West Carroll Elementary's Candyland Christmas was a joyful celebration that left students smiling, a testament to the school’s commitment to fostering good behavior and creating memorable experiences for its students.
