TREZEVANT — West Carroll Elementary School brought stories to life on Thursday evening, October 9, during its Literacy Night Story Walk at the Trezevant Community Park. Families gathered at the walking trail beside the school to enjoy an interactive reading experience centered on the book The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.

Students and their families followed the trail to read the story from start to finish, discovering the Big Bad Wolf’s side of the classic fairy tale. “The students really enjoyed reading the story told from the wolf’s perspective,” said Principal Dr. Jessica Williams. “It was a fun way to explore point of view and characterization while encouraging family reading.”

The story walk was designed for readers at the elementary school level, offering access to a wide range of students and their families. Along the trail, families encountered story pages paired with movement stations that encouraged participation, including jumping jacks, balancing games, and other interactive activities. Students who completed the course received cupcakes, and the final stop featured three live pigs on loan from Tosh Farms. The Big Bad Wolf himself made a surprise appearance, adding a fun photo opportunity and light-hearted conclusion to the night.

Dr. Williams said she hopes the event helps strengthen reading habits at home while showing students that reading can be active, engaging, and shared with family.
