West Carroll High School Falls to Riverside in Preseason Games

ATWOOD (November 19) — West Carroll High School hosted Riverside Tuesday for a pair of Hall of Champion (preseason) basketball contests. The Lady Panthers jumped out to a big lead early en route to a 62-31 win, and the Panthers pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 52-31 victory.
Riverside Lady Panthers 62, West Carroll Lady War Eagles 31
The Lady Panthers stormed out to a 24-9 lead after the opening frame, led by Bentley Rogers with eleven points, including a pair of three-pointers. Alyssa Pratt, Sophie Ricketts and Lillian Wade each hit a three, and Lauren Camper also scored three points. Emma Johnson hit a free throw. Hailey Mitchell led West Carroll with eight points, including a pair of threes. Aubrey Hammett hit a free throw.
Riverside had a 22-5 advantage in the second quarter, led by Rogers with nine, including a three-pointer. Pratt scored five, Ella Davis had four, and Johnson and Jazmine McDonald each had a pair. Hammett scored three points for West Carroll, and Gracelyn Vernon had a pair. At the half, Riverside led 46-14.
The Lady Panthers had a 10-8 edge in the third, led by McDonald with four points. Pratt, Johnson and Camper each added a pair. Vernon led the Lady War Eagles with seven points, including a three-pointer. Mitchell hit a freebie. Entering the final frame, Riverside led 56-22.
West Carroll cut the final deficit with a 9-6 tilt in the fourth, led by Mitchell with four points. Vernon hit a three, and Hammett added a pair. Rogers and Lillian Wade each hit a three for Riverside.
Lady Panther Bentley Rogers led all scorers with 23 points, including four three-pointers.
Hailey Mitchell led West Carroll with 13 points, including a pair of threes.
Gracelyn Vernon scored a dozen, also with a pair of three-pointers.
Panthers 52, War Eagles 31
Riverside jumped out to a 15-5 lead after the first frame, led by Kutter Potts, Landon Swindle and Jase England with three points each (Potts with a three-pointer). Landon Vaugham, Aidan Lunsford and Matthew Wyatt each had a pair. War Eagle Kayden Melton scored four, and Demarion Gilbert hit a free throw.
The second quarter was a 10-10 wash. Gilbert led West Carroll with four points, and Melton, Isaiah Snyder and Trey Williamson each had a pair. Swindle scored six on a pair of threes for Riverside, and Vaugham and Thatcher Crews each had a pair. At the half, the Panthers led 25-15.
Riverside had a 10-8 edge in the third, led by Potts with four points. Lunsford, Crews and Swindle each added a pair. War Eagle Chandler Rimmer hit a three-pointer, and Melton also scored three points. Snyder and Gilbert each hit a freebie. Heading into the fourth quarter, Riverside led 35-23.
The Panthers had a 17-8 advantage in the final frame, led by Crews with six points. Wyatt scored five, and Colt Brooks had four points. Rimmer led West Carroll with four points, Skyler Wilhite hit a three, and Snyder hit a free throw.
Panther Landon Swindle led all scorers with 13 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Thatcher Crews scored ten.
Kayden Melton led West Carroll with nine points. Chandler Rimmer scored seven with a three-pointer.
