West Carroll Primary School recently celebrated Read Across America Week with a series of engaging activities designed to promote a love of reading among Pre-K through second grade students.

The event featured themed dress-up days inspired by Dr. Seuss classics, including Hat Day, Wear Green Day, Wacky Sock Day and Pajama Day, allowing students and staff to embrace the joy of literacy in a fun and creative way.

Beyond the themed attire, students participated in a curriculum that integrated state standards with Dr. Seuss-inspired lessons. From exploring autobiographies to forming opinions on Green Eggs and Ham, students engaged in activities that blended learning with excitement, reinforcing key literacy concepts in an interactive setting.

A highlight of the week was the involvement of community leaders who joined students in celebrating the importance of reading. Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler, Director of Schools Preston Caldwell, School Board Member Betty Wallace and Carroll County Register of Deeds Natalie Porter were among those who contributed their time. Principal Jackie Wester, representatives from Carroll Bank and Trust, and retired educators, including Teresa Norton, Molly Vann, Amy Murphree and Pam Joyner, also played a vital role in enriching the experience.

West Carroll Primary School extends its appreciation to all community members and parents who contributed to making Read Across America Week a memorable and impactful event for students.
