McLEMORESVILLE — While many students are enjoying summer break, learning is still going strong at West Carroll Primary School (WCP)! Students are staying engaged through hands-on activities that make learning both meaningful and fun.

Kindergarten students have been exploring different types of weather. As part of their studies, they created “tornadoes in a bottle” to observe how tornadoes form and designed weather charts that will be used daily to track and discuss changing weather conditions.

First grade students have been learning about bugs and insects. They combined creativity with science by making colorful crabs, turtles and butterflies while discussing the characteristics and habitats of various animals and insects.

Second grade students have been busy studying clocks, plants and dairy animals. Following a unit on dairy farms and how dairy products make their way to our tables, students participated in a hands-on butter-making activity. Using heavy whipping cream, they shook jars until the buttermilk separated from the butter, giving them a firsthand look at a process used in food production.

Students also enjoy daily recess, where they build social skills, teamwork and friendships through play. At WCP, summer learning proves that education can be interactive, engaging and most importantly—FUN!
