Weakley County Schools Announces February 2026 Feature Teachers

Weakley County Schools recognizes February 2026 Feature Teachers, two educators whose dedication, professionalism and commitment to student growth make a lasting impact across our district.

The news release stated, "This month, we are honored to celebrate Lauren Mitchell, speech-language pathologist serving Gleason and Greenfield Schools, representing the PreK-5th grade band, and Evan Jarrett, history teacher at Dresden Middle School, representing the 6-12th grade band. Both educators exemplify the heart of teaching through meaningful connections, strong relationships and a clear sense of purpose."

As with each month’s recognition, both teachers were surprised in their classroom by administration before receiving the six-foot traveling Feature Teacher trophy, a symbol of excellence passed from one outstanding educator to the next that will remain in their classroom for the month.

In the PreK-5th grade band, Lauren Mitchell is celebrated for her exceptional professionalism, expertise and ability to build trust with both students and families. Serving students at both Gleason and Greenfield, Mrs. Mitchell brings warmth, clarity and compassion to every interaction. Her thoughtful approach during IEP meetings helps families feel supported and informed, while her ability to connect therapy goals to student interests leads to meaningful progress.

“Lauren is an outstanding speech teacher and an invaluable asset to our schools,” shared Gleason School Principal Lee Lawrence. “Her ability to explain services clearly, build trust with families and redirect challenges toward positive outcomes sets her apart. She connects with students in ways that make learning effective and enjoyable, and her impact is felt every day.”

At Dresden Middle School, Evan Jarrett is being recognized for the welcoming, engaging environment he creates for his students each day. His history lessons keep students interested and involved, helping them truly understand what they’re learning instead of just memorizing facts. Between classes, Mr. Jarrett can often be found in the hallways greeting students by name and building positive connections. That sense of connection shows in his classroom, where students are growing academically and developing a genuine interest in history.

“Walking into Coach Jarrett’s classroom, you would never know he is a first-year teacher,” shared Dresden Middle School Principal David Lewellen. “His lessons are engaging, his students are mastering the content, and the growth we’ve seen through winter benchmarks speaks for itself. He’s found his purpose, and our students are better because of it.”

Assistant Director of Schools Betsi Foster shared how this month’s honorees reflect the values that guide the district.

“Lauren Mitchell and Evan Jarrett represent the very best of Weakley County Schools,” said Foster. “Mrs. Mitchell’s ability to connect with families and support students through clear communication and care, alongside Mr. Jarrett’s talent for building connections and encouraging student growth, directly reflect the purpose, connection and growth we strive for across our district.”

The February Feature Teachers will be highlighted in upcoming district stories and across Weakley County Schools’ social media platforms. Their work is a powerful reminder that when educators lead with heart and intention, students thrive.
