National Register of Historic Places Celebration This Weekend

Webb Alumni to Host Ribbon-Cutting Saturday

McKENZIE — The Webb Alumni Association, Inc. will celebrate the placement of Webb Public School in the National Register of Historic Places on Saturday, July 20 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at the school at 938 Walnut Avenue West.
The building’s nomination was approved on May 31 by the National Park Service of the United States Department of the Interior.
The school was constructed in 1958 and served African-American students in Carroll and Weakley counties until its closure in 1966 due to integration. The building currently houses Northwest Tennessee Head Start and the Webb Historical Museum.
Saturday’s event will feature remarks by Webb Alumni National President Neal Williamson, Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler, McKenzie Mayor Ryan Griffin, State Representative Tandy Darby and State Senator John Stevens. A presentation of the National Register and recognition of alumni and others will follow.
