Webb School Alumni Annual Homecoming is This Weekend

McKENZIE — Webb School Alumni Association is hosting its 54th annual Homecoming over the Labor Day weekend.

Webb School was an all-African-American school prior to desegregation when the school closed and the students consolidated with other public schools in the area.

Just last month, the Webb School building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. A ribbon cutting was held to celebrate the great honor. The building features a museum to commemorate the school’s history. It is also the home to Head Start and an after-school program known as Two Sisters and a Book.

On Friday, August 30, 6 p.m. the events start on the campus of Webb High School, 938 Walnut West-McKenzie at 6 p.m. with the event known as This is Not Texas, It’s Tennessee.

On Saturday, August 31, the event is Gospel Explosion-Gospel Lights, 7 p.m. on campus.

Also Saturday, the Alumni Association will select a national president and officers during the annual meeting at 10:30 a.m.

Sunday, September 1, is the Fashion Show “Back in Style Again: at 5 p.m.

Monday, Labor Day, September 2, is themed Throw Back Soul Train 70s and 80s with food trucks. The Soul Train part starts at noon.
