LYNNVILLE (November 8) — The West Carroll War Eagles ended their football season Friday in the first round of the TSSAA Class 1A Football Playoffs with a 37-0 loss to Region 5 champion Richland.

While disappointed to see the season come to a close, the West Carroll faithful have reason to be proud of the team and hopeful for the future.

A few devastating injuries to the small roster in the middle of the season didn’t deter the War Eagles, whose young core carried on to complete the regular season at 5-5 and earn a spot in the postseason.

Sophomore quarterback Zac Fowler, along with freshmen Mason Taylor and Trinden Kirby, showed flashes of greatness down the stretch, including in a nail-biter win at Hollow Rock-Bruceton and a decisive win at KIPP Memphis.

The team also has eight juniors returning next year.

Fans were treated to an exciting surprise in the War Eagles’ final game. Senior powerhouse running back Jayden Milton, who was injured in the sixth game of the season, returned to the field. (He returned for one play on Senior Night the previous week.)

In his high school swan song, Milton had 25 carries for 100 yards as well as a 16-yard kickoff return. That gives him a season total of 1,550 yards and 18 touchdowns (in just seven games).

Expect to see Milton take the field somewhere on Saturdays next fall as he has received multiple college offers.
