The Inglenook Book Club met for its monthly meeting on May 8 at 3 p.m. at Lakeside, with 19 members in attendance. President Gail Mack was absent so vice-president Shirley Martin called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance, club aim and club motto was recited by all. Thank you to hostesses Gayron Lyles and Beverly Mueller for the great cheese cracker assortment and grape salad along with assorted beverages that were served. more
TENNESSEE (May 13) — Average gasoline prices in Tennessee have fallen 9.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.21/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 6.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 6.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 4.6 cents in the last week and stands at $3.90 per gallon. more
NASHVILLE (May 14) — The Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry (TDF) invites forest landowners to apply for technical and financial assistance to establish or improve their forests. Forest industry members, including loggers, may also apply for assistance to enhance water quality protection and expand harvesting capacity. more

NASHVILLE (May 13) — The Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) announced results from its annual roadside observational survey to determine the state’s average seat belt usage rate. This survey returned a statewide usage rate of 92 percent. The 2023 usage rate represents an increase of approximately 1.5 percent compared to Tennessee’s 2022 survey result of 90.5 percent. The 2023 survey result is Tennessee’s highest annual seat belt usage rate to date. more
The Carroll County Arts Council will host its Annual Creativity Camp from June 10-14, 2024. The event is open to elementary and middle school students residing in Carroll County. Activities in music, art, creative writing and drama are the focus. more

McKENZIE (May 6) — On Tuesday, Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler delivered a State of the County Address to the McKenzie Rotary Club. Butler explained that Carroll County is in good financial shape and is in the final stages of preparation for presenting the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Budget. Butler was elected as Carroll County Mayor in 2018. more
