Friday, September 8, 2023, was a great day for the annual Dr. Jerry Atkins Habitat for Humanity Golf Scramble. With blue skies and a light breeze the weather was perfect for a golf game. Eleven teams enjoyed a day of golf with all the proceeds going to Habitat. Upon arrival the participants were checked in, given a goodie bag, and received a meal from Chick-fil-A. A little before noon Michelle Sanders welcomed the participants and Mrs. Paula Atkins thanked everyone for coming. Drawings were held for sleeves of golf balls for door prizes. Before the participants left to go to their beginning holes, Brooks Jackson, youth minister at the Huntingdon church of Christ, prayed for the players and the work of Habitat. more

When Dr. Justin Barden accepted his new position as the McKenzie Special School District’s Director of Schools, he knew he wanted to spend his first year observing rather than changing. He would be intentional and methodical with his choices, and he could only do that by listening and learning what the district already does so well. more
Six students from Carroll County attended the WestStar Leadership Program’s 2023 FutureStar Leadership Summit on Sept. 12 at the Boling University Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin. more
PARIS — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has received a new piece of equipment to help combat contraband and keep it from entering the jail. On January 31, 2024, HCSD received a body scanner that was located into the booking area of the jail.  more
HUNTINGDON — Twenty-three high school marching bands are scheduled to compete in the Huntingdon Marching Invitational at Paul Ward Stadium, Saturday, October 1. Local bands, McKenzie, West Carroll, and Hollow Rock-Bruceton are among the competitors. The Bethel University Renaissance Regiment will perform in exhibition. more

The Bethel/Eastside Family and Community Education (FCE) group met on February 9 with 11 members present. The meeting was held at the Mays home and hosted by Lacy Yelley, the extension agent. The devotion was given by Gail Eubanks, president, from Ephesians 4:29 reminding everyone that words of communication can be used to tear down or build up. The club Collect was read in unison followed by the roll call. In honor of Valentine’s Day, the roll call was answered from the question ‘Who was your first crush or childhood sweetheart?’ The minutes were read and approved. more

During the September 20 meeting of the Huntingdon Special School District Board of Education, board members approved Huntingdon-based Evans Medical Clinic as the on-site provider of medical services. more

ATWOOD (October 6) — West Carroll Special School District Board of Education approved the Fiscal Year 22-23 budget, that began on July 1, 2022. Preston Caldwell, director of schools, said he waited until the three new board members took office before addressing the budget. more
