NASHVILLE (January 10) — Tennessee Governor Bill Lee recently announced the Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security (ELVIS) Act, a bill updating Tennessee’s Protection of Personal Rights law to include protections for songwriters, performers, and music industry professionals’ voice from the misuse of AI.

MARTIN — The University of Tennessee at Martin recently honored the academic achievements of undergraduate students with the publication of the Spring 2023 Chancellor’s Honor Rolls for the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, College of Business and Global Affairs, College of Education, Health and Behavioral Sciences, College of Engineering and Natural Sciences and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) hosted its second annual Tech Discovery Camp for rising eighth graders May 22-26 for Bruceton and Clarksburg students and May 30-June 2 for McKenzie students. The camp was introduced last summer as a way to introduce students to technical career options.

McKENZIE (October 6) — Belle O’Brien is the 2023 MHS Football Homecoming Queen. She was crowned during pre-game ceremonies at Rebel Stadium on October 6. The candidates all entered the stadium in a convertible driven by Steven Berryman.

McKENZIE (January 10) — The Inglenook Book Club held its first meeting of the New Year 2024, on January 10, at 3 p.m. at Lakeside Senior Living Community with 20 members in attendance. President Gail Mack called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance, Club Aim and Motto were recited by all. Happy Birthday was sang by all to our January birthday gal, Gayron Lyles. President Mack thanked the hostesses, Peggy Chappell and Suzanne Howell for the delicious warm apple cobbler, ice cream, assorted Chex/nut medley and beverages that was served.

TRENTON (October 14) — On Saturday, the City of Trenton honored longtime coach and city alderman, Frank Gibson. Pedestrian Park in downtown Trenton was The Frank Gibson Pedestrian Park. Gibson spearheaded the creation of Pedestrian Park, turning a vacant lot in the heart of the downtown area into what is now one of the most utilized and beautiful amenities the city has to offer.

Susan Dyer, a teacher at McKenzie High School in Carroll County, took part in the “Humanity of Leadership” program on Sept. 27 as part of the WestStar Leadership Program’s WestTeach Program. Participants in the WestTeach Program are K-12 teachers who are nominated by their principal who aspire to remain in the classroom but want to be a leader in their school and community.

CARROLL COUNTY — Paralympic athletes Kirsten Sass and Amy Dixon coached the No Sight No Limits triathlon camp in Carroll County, June 11 and 12. Amy Dixon, an elite blind paratriathlete and 8-time World Triathlon gold medalist, founded Camp No Sight No Limits in 2017 to help visually-impaired athletes and guides train for future competitions.
