Stephen Brown, a lifelong McKenzie native and CSX engineer, had the recent honor of working the CSX Santa Train, which runs through parts of Kentucky, Virgina, and Tennessee along the Appalachian Trail. In its 81st year, the Santa Train carried approximately 13 tons of supplies to those along the 110-mile route, consisting of toys, food, wrapping paper, and stuffed backpacks. The train embarked on its 10-hour journey beginning in Pikeville, Kentucky and ending in Kingsport, Tenn. more

HUNTINGDON (October 25) — Carroll County Inclusion Park will soon be a reality, thanks to many donors and major contributions from the County of Carroll at $400,000, the State of Tennessee’s Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in the amount of $497,250, plus a donation of land by the Town of Huntingdon. more
NASHVILLE (January 24) — On Wednesday, January 24, the Tennessee Historical Commission’s State Review Board met to decide on furthering Webb School’s nomination on to the National Register of Historic Places. The board unanimously approved moving the nomination forward to the National Park Service for final approval to the National Register. If placed on the registry, Webb School would then be eligible for National Park Service-administered federal preservation tax credits and grant programs. more

After the death of Louise Hathcock, the legend of Buford Pusser began to snowball with each story or tale, some true, some stretched and others just outright untrue. Each week a new story would be published in the local papers. As the legend grew, so did the battles between Buford and the State Liners. Both sides believed violence was the answer to the problem at hand. more
