14th ANNUAL UPPER WEST TENNESSEE POLAR PLUNGE
From the Jan 28, 2025 e-EditionMARTIN, Tenn. – The 14th annual Upper West Tennessee Special Olympics Polar Plunge will take place on Saturday, February 8th at Aloha Pools and Spas, 1400 W. Reelfoot Avenue in Union City. Brave men and women from around the area will brave the frigid waters at Aloha Pools to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics. Each participant must raise a minimum of $75 to take the plunge and can earn incentives by reaching fundraising goals. The goal for the 2025 Polar Plunge is $20,000. Funds raised from the Polar Plunge will benefit over 400 athletes in Special Olympics activities in Lake, Obion, Weakley, Henry, and Carroll counties.
Those interested in taking the plunge or making a donation can go to polarplungetn.com and click Union City. Registration begins at 10 am and the plunge starts promptly at 11 am.
The mission of Special Olympics of Upper West Tennessee is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The experience gives participants continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Full participation is granted to every athlete regardless of his or her economic circumstances. The ultimate goal of Special Olympics is to help persons with intellectual disabilities participate as productive and respected members of society at large by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through sports training and competition.
