Atwood Teen In Recovery After Farming Accident
From the Jun 9, 2026 e-Edition
ATWOOD — What started as a normal Monday in the hay field changed in an instant for one Carroll County teenager on June 1 when a farming accident led to a four-day stay in the hospital.
Clay Fowler, the 15-year-old son of Justin and Mallory Fowler, was working in his family’s hay field in Atwood when he was seriously injured in an accident. Local first responders arrived at the scene quickly, and Fowler was airlifted to Regional One Health in Memphis for emergency treatment.
Fowler was treated for several injuries, including a liver laceration and bruised lungs. During his four-day hospital stay, he showed significant improvement. By day three, medical staff reported that Fowler was walking, climbing stairs and breathing near-normally, leading to his discharge on June 5.
“We are forever thankful for our county’s first responders who arrived so quickly and cared for Clay with urgency and compassion,” said Brittany Baker Fowler, who shared updates on Clay Fowler’s health throughout his hospital stay. “The flight crew kept Mal and Justin informed and at peace with timely updates, and the staff at Regional One in Memphis have been nothing short of exceptional.”
The Fowler family has also expressed gratitude to the community for their continued prayers and support.
“To everyone who has called, texted, prayed, checked in, offered help with the animals or simply stood beside Mal and Justin and the rest of the Fowler/Brandon family, thank you,” Brittany Baker Fowler said. “The overwhelming love and support from friends, church families, rodeo families and our small community have carried everyone through the unknowns.”
As Fowler continues to recover at home, Brittany Baker Fowler created a Meal Train profile to help support him and his family: https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/mewv09
“We’d like to support the Fowler family; Mallory, Justin, Clay, and Corbin by providing meals to help lighten their daily load,” the Meal Train page says.
Fowler is a rising sophomore at McKenzie High School. He is an active member of his church and is involved in rodeo associations.
