McKENZIE (June 5) — The Carroll County Humane Society hosted a Kitten Shower Thursday evening at the shelter.

It's kitten season, so the shelter has been inundated with tiny felines in need of food, shelter, medical care and, ultimately, a forever home.

The event invited animal lovers to visit the kittens, give them some much-needed human interaction and, hopefully, adopt one or more to become part of their families.

CCHS requested donations of wet and dry kitten food, paper towels, cardboard scratchers and monetary donations toward vetting.

The response was positive, but the need for donations and adoptions continues.

The shelter is located at 21822 Highway 22, McKenzie. The phone number is 731-358-1019. Staff are at the shelter Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. Please call ahead on Saturday to confirm staff availability.

The Carroll County Humane Society is a no-kill animal shelter in McKenzie, Tennessee. (They do not euthanize to make space nor do they limit the amount of time an animal can stay at the shelter.) CCHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with funding coming entirely from private contributions, bequeaths, fundraising and grants. They care for approximately 100 animals at one time in the shelter building and in foster homes. The goal is to utilize adoption and spay/neuter as the community's animal population control - not euthanasia. CCHS hopes to ensure that all companion animals have a warm, safe, loving home and to assist and educate the public about proper pet care. CCHS also gives shelter to abused animals while assisting law enforcement to prosecute their abusers.
