Carroll County Election Draws Few Voters
From the Aug 6, 2024 e-EditionCARROLL COUNTY (August 1) — Carroll County voters turned out in low numbers (2,081) to select their party’s nominees for federal and state elections, one unexpired seat for county commission and for local school boards.
Local general elections results are as follows:
County Commission District 4 (unexpired): Morris Rogers won with 122 compared to Ronnie Webb with 94.
County Board of Education: District 1: Harold McLain, Jr. received 406 votes in the uncontested race. District 2 (unexpired term): Larry Overman received 418 to win over Hal Eason with 285. District 3: James Randy Kelley won with 345 votes over Kenna Bailey with 250.
Hollow Rock-Bruceton School Board: District 16 (Bruceton): Brad Hurley won with 79 in the uncontested election. District 16 (Hollow Rock): Tim Runions won with 64 in the uncontested race. District 17 (Vale): Jim Holder won 19 votes in the uncontested race. District 18 (Westport): Nick Maness won with 11 votes in the uncontested race.
Huntingdon Special School District Board (vote for 2): Lee Carter garnered 419 and Brittany Cobb Foster with 380 won the two seats on the board.
McKenzie Special School District Board (vote for 3): Misty Aird with 368, Chad Brown with 399, and Karen T. Fowler with 409 won re-election over newcomer Patrick Ross with 282.
South Carroll Special School District Board (vote for 3): Corey Bartholomew with 162, Donna McDaniel-Cox with 120, and Colton Lynn Moore with 115 won election while Nick Cobb with 112 was unsuccessful in the race.
West Carroll Special School District Board: Three uncontested incumbents were reelected to the board. William Robinson garnered 75 for The Old Atwood District; Misty Mitchell received 93 in the old Trezevant District; and Jeremy Jackson received 151 votes in the Old County District.
In the Republican primaries, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn garnered 1,532 votes (93.22 percent) compared to challengers Tres Wittum with 113 and David Fey with zero.
U.S. Congressman David Kustoff (R) received 1565 complimentary votes.
State Senator John D. Stevens (R) received 1,238 compared to challenger Charles Cooper with 353.
District 76 State Representative Tandy Darby (R) received 729 complimentary votes in the Republican primary.
District 79 State Representative Brock Martin (R) received 827 complimentary votes.
In the Democratic primaries, U.S. Senate: Gloria Johnson (D) garnered 191 votes to best Marquita Bradshaw with 104, Lola Denise Brown with 34, and Civil Miller-Watkins with 6.
U.S. House of Representatives District 8: Sarah Freeman (D) garnered 114 to best Leonard Perkins with 76, Lawrence Pivnick with 12, Lynnette Williams with 62, and Brenda Woods with 52.
No Democrat candidates for Tenn. Senate District 24, Tenn. District 76 House, and Tenn. District 79 House.
State Executive Democratic Committeewoman District 24 Virginia Ginger House garnered 145 to best Tammy Floyd-Wade with 138, and Elizabeth LeMoine with 42.
State Executive Committeeman District 24 Mark Flake received 243 votes.
Two judicial retention votes were also on the ballot.
Carroll Countians voted 1,393 in favor of retaining Dwight Tarwater on the Tennessee Supreme Court, with 285 voting to replace. Likewise, 1,404 voted to retain Matthew J. Wilson for Court of Criminal Appeals Western Division, 271 voted to replace.
