Curtis Halford, Former State Representative, Dies at 81

Curtis Halford, a dedicated public servant and former Tennessee State Representative for the 79th District, died on January 24, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on March 27, 1943, Halford is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte; their two children, Lori and Bradley; and three grandchildren, Kate, Charlotte, and Noah.
Halford’s career in public service was marked by significant contributions at both local and state levels. He began his public service as a Gibson County Commissioner and later served as the Public Works Superintendent for the city of Dyer. In 2009, he was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives, representing the 79th District until his retirement in January 2023.
During his tenure in the legislature, Halford served with distinction, holding key positions such as Secretary of the Agriculture Committee and Vice-Chair of the Bill Review Committee. He was also a valued member of the Health and Human Resources and Ethics Committees, where his efforts earned him the respect of colleagues and constituents alike.
In recognition of his commitment to improving the lives of Tennesseans, the 1,000-Acre Recreational Lake in Carroll County was renamed Lake Halford in his honor, a testament to his enduring legacy.
Beyond his political achievements, Halford will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his community, his warm demeanor, and his deep love for his family. His life and service leave a lasting impact on the state of Tennessee and the countless lives he touched.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
