High-Speed Chase Ends at High School
From the Aug 20, 2024 e-EditionJuvenile Flees Police — A juvenile male was arrested and transported to Carroll County Jail after he was driving 94 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone on August 15.
McKenzie Police Officer Dustin McClure said the juvenile, with a female passenger, attempted to evade police and drove at excessive rates of speed to avoid arrest. Officer McClure radioed Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies to request a roadway spike deployment to stop the vehicle by flattening its tires. However, the male juvenile turned into McKenzie High School, where there was only one entrance and outlet. Officer McClure radioed Patrolman Cunningham of his location and McClure blocked the roadway with his patrol car. The male juvenile’s vehicle continued toward McClure, who was standing outside the patrol car. McClure unholstered his service weapon and held it in the low, ready position. The juvenile continued toward the officer, stopping only two feet from him and one foot from the patrol car.
The driver was arrested, and the female passenger was released after information about the incident had been provided. The female told officers she was in fear for her life.
The driver was charged with Reckless Driving, Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Speeding, Violation of Window Tint, and Violation of Financial Responsibility. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
