Huntingdon School Board Approves Additional SPED Position, Student Representative
From the Mar 25, 2025 e-EditionHUNTINGDON (March 19) — The Huntingdon Special School District Board of Education met Wednesday afternoon at the board office. A quick but productive meeting included the approval of a student representative to the school board as well as an additional Special Education position at the middle school.
Director of Schools Dr. Jonathan Kee requested the additional HMS position, which was approved unanimously.
A motion to create the position of student board representative was also approved unanimously. A representative will be selected each year among seniors at Huntingdon High School.
HHS students Naomi Martin, Katherine Meggs and Wyatt Forbess addressed the board about their trip to Nashville for the Tennessee School Board Association’s (TSBA) annual Student Congress on Policies in Education (SCOPE). At the event, students participate in debates on current education issues.
The students spoke about their experience and thanked the board for its support in making the trip.
Board members approved a three-year contract with the TSBA for $3,000 per year.
The board approved a resolution required by the state in order to participate in a one-time teacher bonus included in the recent Education Freedom Act. Most certified teachers will receive $2,000 during the next school year.
Also approved was a recommendation from the Science textbook committee to adopt Savvas as the vendor for grades K-8, Chemistry and Physics and to adopt McGraw-Hill as the vendor for Biology.
Several announcements were made by Director Kee.
The district received a Health Care Resilience Grant of $250,000, which will allow the schools to retain special staff.
Huntingdon Primary School will host an Art Show after school on Wednesday, April 23.
HMS will offer eighth graders free CPR training on an undetermined Saturday in April.
HHS hosts the FFA Plant Sale April 11-12.
The Carroll County Special Olympics will be held at Paul Ward Stadium on Friday, April 11 from 9 a.m. until noon.
The meeting adjourned in just under half an hour.
The Huntingdon school board meets next on Wednesday, April 16 at 5 p.m.
