HUNTINGDON (January 29) — The Town of Huntingdon is eliminating the Director of Public Safety position and creating two positions previously under that single designation. In the first of two readings, the Council voted to create positions of Police Chief and Fire Chief. The Council also voted to amend the position of Director of Public Works.
During the January 29 meeting, the Council approved capital outlay notes up to an amount of $150,000 to purchase three 2025 police interceptors.
A in-lieu of performance bond was approved as an assurance bond as part of the 30-year post-closure of the former city landfill. The landfill was closed in the 1990s and the city was required to have a 30-year liability for its closure. There are monitoring test wells on site to assure the buried waste is not polluting nearby property.
Huntingdon High School JAG program was permitted to install a Mustang Mentors Storybook Trail community project. Councilwoman Lori Dillahunty said she spoke with teacher Ginger Taylor to get the details of the project.
An ordinance that amends the city’s business signs size was approved on the second and final reading.
The first of two readings approved the change of the city’s rules concerning mobile homes. It eliminates future mobile home parks, allowing only single homes on individual lots.
Dana Deem, a consultant with the Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) offered to conduct a strategic planning session with the Mayor and Council. Deem resides in Carroll County.
Mayor Chad Edwards said the city will soon decide the fate of the Huntingdon Heritage Museum, located across from City Hall. He said the museum could be moved to an empty space in City Hall.
