From the Dec 17, 2024 e-Edition
HUNTINGDON (December 10) — The Huntingdon Mayor and Town Council approved the purchase of two new police SUVs during its December 10 meeting.
The purchase price was $52,101 each from Lonnie Cobb Ford, the dealer offering the state bid price and requires no competitive bidding.
The 2025 Ford Explorers are equipped with the necessary police equipment. Just two years ago, many vehicles were in short supply because of the pandemic and the disruption to the supply chains. Huntingdon PD complained about the patrol fleet being in disrepair during that time.
The board also approved the first of two readings that amended the size of advertising signs for businesses. It is designed to standardize the sizes of any new permanent advertising signs. All existing signs, including the mobile signs, are ‘grandfathered’ in and can remain. A public hearing is scheduled on January 28, 2025 prior to the second and final reading.
A proposal was postponed until January that would allow the Huntingdon High School Jobs of Americans Graduates classes and Mustang Mentors to install a Storybook Trail in Kelley Sports Complex. Councilwoman Lori Dillahunty requested the delay to allow the JAG teacher sponsor, Ginger Taylor, to address the council.
Dee Baker was honored at the meeting for work effectiveness that saved the city money.
Mayor Chad Edwards and Walter Smothers, Director of Public Safety honored Baker by reading a letter of commendation.
