Huntingdon School Board Debuts New App, New Student Reps
From the Jun 23, 2026 e-Edition
HUNTINGDON (June 17) — The Huntingdon Special School District Board of Education met Wednesday, June 17, for a regular board meeting.
Rising senior Katherine Meggs and rising junior Lila Reed made their debut as new student school board representatives during the meeting.
Also introduced in the June 17 meeting was the Huntingdon Special School District’s new app, which Director of Schools Dr. Jonathan Kee said will become the district’s new communication platform.
“We are trying to be more connected,” Kee said. The district will officially roll out the app in July and August.
The new app can be found by searching “Huntingdon Special Schools” on the app store.
The school board approved the consent agenda in a sweeping vote — approving the balance sheets and minutes from the May meeting, summer programming for fiscal year 2026, CTE Perkins Basic for fiscal year 2027, consolidated funding for IDEA/ESEA grants for fiscal year 2027, budget amendments, the 2026-27 differentiated pay plan, the Artificial Intelligence Programs annual report and the textbook adoption list.
The board also approved the 2026-27 district student/parent handbook and the 2024-25 district Finance Audit. They approved a request for the high school volleyball team to attend an overnight camp in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The board approved third grade teacher Jamie Huss and sixth grade teacher Erica Sills for tenure.
Pending their July budget meeting, the board approved a request to operate on the 2025-26 school year budget.
Meggs and Reed then spoke to the school board about their summers. They each attended the HOBY Leadership Camp at Vanderbilt University — Meggs as a Junior Facilitator and Reed as an Ambassador. Meggs spoke about recent Mustang Mentor training sessions and a University of Tennessee at Martin training session.
School Board Chairman Dr. Lee Carter said he had applied for Huntingdon High School’s Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Program and the Mustang Mentors to be a topic at this year’s Tennessee School Board Association conference.
“I want folks to know all the good things we have going on in Huntingdon,” Carter said.
Dr. Kee informed the school board of an upcoming community luncheon on July 17 at 11:30 a.m. in the Huntingdon High School cafeteria. He said the luncheon was the district’s way of saying “thank you” to everyone who has shown their support in the past school year.
Paul Ward Stadium recently underwent minor renovations, with 15 concrete steps being repaired.
The school board’s next meeting is July 22. The board’s budget workshop begins at 4 p.m., and the regular meeting will follow.
The Huntingdon school board meets at the Huntingdon Board of Education, located at 585 High Street.
