Huntingdon Water Bills to be Averaged Until Automatic Meters are Installed
From the Nov 19, 2024 e-EditionHUNTINGDON (November14) — The Mayor and Town Council held a special called meeting Thursday to consider action to mitigate discrepancies on water bills.
A permanent solution to the ongoing issue of misread water meters is currently being implemented. Electronic, self-reading meters are being installed for every customer connected to the town’s water system.
The resolution presented at the meeting suspends the reading of meters for billing purposes until all of the electronic meters are installed and automated reading can be fully implemented.
For each customer, the previous 12 months of bills will be averaged to determine a flat rate, which will be the monthly rate billed until the aforementioned process is completed.
Newly-elected Mayor Chad Edwards informed the council that he had contacted the state comptroller to seek advice about the proposed resolution. The comptroller endorsed the move as the best option.
Councilmember Kelly Eubanks made a motion to approve the resolution. Will Atkins seconded the motion, and it was approved unanimously. Councilmember Andrew Maddox was absent.
The meeting adjourned after three minutes.
