TREZEVANT (January 24) — Kathy Weatherford Edwards was celebrated with a special reception to mark her retirement after nearly two decades of dedicated service to the Town of Trezevant. The event, held on Friday at the Trezevant Community Center, brought together family, friends, and city officials to honor Edwards for her outstanding contributions as the city recorder.
Mayor Bobby Blaylock took a moment during the luncheon to personally thank Edwards for her work since 2007, commending her for her unwavering dedication to the town. “Kathy has been a cornerstone of our community, and we are truly grateful for everything she has done,” Mayor Blaylock said.
Edwards’ career as city recorder involved a variety of responsibilities, including managing water bills and taxes, serving as the clerk for city court, and handling fines and customer service. She noted that, beyond official duties, people frequently stopped by City Hall for help with simple requests like directions—even if their destination wasn’t in Trezevant.
Former Mayor Wayne David Bryant, II, who was the first mayor Edwards worked with, also attended the event to share his well-wishes. Virginia Knott has been named as Edwards’ successor in the role.
Though Edwards’ official retirement date is set for February 1, she will be utilizing accumulated vacation time until then. In her retirement, Edwards looks forward to traveling, sleeping in, and enjoying her free time.
A proud Trezevant native, Edwards grew up just blocks away from City Hall and graduated from Trezevant High School in 1977. She earned a degree from Union University in 1981. The daughter of Joe Pat and Brenda Weatherford, Edwards now plans to spend more time with her husband, Tony Edwards, and their daughter, Emily Watkins.
With a deep sense of gratitude, the Trezevant community bids farewell to Kathy Edwards, whose service has left a lasting impact on the town she has served for so many years.
