ATWOOD (September 5) — Long-time school secretary Lissie Robinson retired from the West Carroll Special School district and was honored during Thursday night’s September board meeting.

Robinson has served as the secretary and a host of other jobs for the West Carroll Special School District for 35 years.

“I can’t tell you how wonderful she has been to me in my four years her," Director of Schools Preston Caldwell stated. “She has been a saint. I can’t tell you all the lives that she has touched in that time. The care that has been shown the students of West Carroll has been remarkable.”

Chairman William Robinson echoed Caldwell’s appreciation for Robinson’s service to the school system.

“I’ve always been here for the children,” Robinson said of her time with the system. “I enjoyed it and I will miss everyone so much. My time now will be spent keeping my great-grandchild.”

Attorney Chris Hayden took the opportunity to swear in three school board members who were elected this year to another term. William Robinson, Jeremy Jackson and Misty Mitchell were sworn in during the meeting. Board officers were also elected during the meeting with Robinson being re-appointed as chairman of the board, while Jeremy Jackson will serve as vice-chair.

A parent addressed the board to express concern about Director of Schools’ Preston Caldwell’s decision to keep her child off the basketball team. Mr. Hayden explained that the school board is not involved in choosing athletic team rosters, per board policy. Hayden said the duties of the school board are to set policy. He explained the process for filing a grievance if a school decision is made that a parent or student disagreed with.
