Man Charged with Corpse Abuse, Evidence Tampering, Animal Cruelty

MARTIN, Tenn. (February 19) — A man faces multiple charges after he allegedly failed to report a dead body, moved the body of the deceased and attempted to clean the scene at a Martin residence.
Investigators claim Elisha Stewart, 24, discovered the body of Mr. Alexander Warren on or around February 13 and failed to notify authorities.
Stewart has been charged with Abuse of Corpse, Fabricating/Tampering with Evidence, Failure To Report Discovery of Dead Body, and Aggravated Cruelty To Animals.
According to the affidavit, On February 19, 2026 at approximately 1046 hours, the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office responded to Troy Road in Martin, Tenn. in reference to a possible dead body on the property.
Through investigation, it was determined the victim, Mr. Alexander Warren, had been deceased for sometime in an upstairs bedroom.
It was discovered that the defendant found the victim deceased on or around February 13, 2026 and failed to notify the Sheriff or his office. Also, it was determined that the defendant did move the body from within the residence to the backyard. Then, it was discovered that the defendant attempted to clean the upstairs floor to get rid of any evidence of a dead body.
The defendant did unlawfully and with no justifiable purpose kill a small dog that belonged to the victim.
This incident did occur in Weakley County, Tenn.
A court hearing will be held for Stewart on March 4.
