McCadams Named McKenzie City Judge

McKENZIE (May 8) — On Thursday, during the monthly meeting of the McKenzie City Council, former District Attorney General, Hansel McCadams was named City Judge. McCadams will replace Charles Trotter on June 2. McCadams is a native of McKenzie who now resides in Henry County.
In other business, the Council was made aware of an incoming ordinance recommended by Mayor Ryan Griffin dealing with food trucks. Griffin stated there had been some discussion from restaurant owners in town about permits and regulations for food trucks. The ordinance, which should be presented at the June meeting, would require food trucks to purchase a $50 permit (no more than $300 annually) or an unlimited annual permit for $300. There would also be a required distance away from a brick-and-mortar restaurant.
City Attorney Beau Pemberton stated that if a food truck did not have the permit, the owner would be cited in city court with a fine of $50.
In other business, the Council approved a $24,425 expense to perform exploratory work and simple repairs to a damaged culvert adjacent to Save-A-Lot and the Pockets Convenience Store. Thermocasting, LLC would perform the clean-out and inspection.
During department reports, the Fire Department received 58 calls for April with 34 being medical-based. The Police Department received 1650 calls for the month with one officer in the academy.
The Parks and Recreation Department is busy with league sports and is preparing for the opening of the splash pad on Memorial Day weekend. On June 14, the Tennessee National Guard will begin working at Mulberry Park. This includes a temporary shutdown of Locust Avenue so it can be rerouted from the center of the soccer complex to the outer perimeter.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the McKenzie City Council is June 12 at 6 p.m.
