McKENZIE (March 12) — The McKenzie City Council met Thursday evening with a fairly light agenda. With little discussion, the Council voted 4-0 against Resolution # 26-002 - Removal of Fluoride from City Water System. Members of the council in attendance were Jessie Townes, Bobby Young, Tim McBride and Carol Armpriest. Not in attendance for the vote were Drew Beeler and Tom Alexander.

In other business, the Council approved Resolution # 26-003 allowing for the City of McKenzie to apply for a Local Park and Recreation Fund (LPRF) grant. The grant would be in the amount not to exceed $400,000 to implement lighting and work on the walking track at Mulberry Park.

The LPRF grant would be in the amount of $300,000 (75%), with $200,000 (20%) from Tennessee Economic Development and Community Development’s GO Fund. The City of McKenzie would then be obligated to a $20,000 (5%) local match.

If approved, this would accelerate the Mulberry Park Soccer Complex phases.

Lastly, the approval regarding TDOT Miscellaneous Safety Improvements and J-Turn Intersection plans regarding SR124 to SR-423 was tabled. Council members wanted more details as to the locations of the J-Turns, as there was some confusion in the wording of the resolution.

The next regular meeting of the McKenzie City Council is April 9 at 6 p.m.
