Mulberry Park Improvements Up for Public Discussion
From the Mar 10, 2026 e-EditionThe City of McKenzie hosts a public input meeting on Monday, March 16, regarding a grant for Mulberry Park’s new soccer field and existing walking track. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. inside the meeting room at McKenzie City Hall.
The grant requires a five-percent match in funding by the city.
The grant project, as presented by the city, will fund lighting for the new soccer field and improvements to the existing walking track. Asphalt patches on the walking track near the basketball court will be repaired and overlaid. A new leg of the walking track will be installed, making the track a complete loop around the park. The existing playground also has a proposed expansion.
The City of McKenzie posted about the upcoming public meeting on Facebook, requesting that residents comment their input or attend the in-person meeting on March 16.
Most residents responded with support, excited about the future of Mulberry Park and its surrounding neighborhoods. Some commenters left requests for the city, like adding fencing around the new soccer field and making the playground better designed for younger children and children with special needs.
Construction of the Mulberry Park soccer complex began in June 2025, with the Tennessee National Guard performing the initial dirtwork for the project. The project’s master plan, approved by members of the McKenzie City Council, calls for eight soccer fields, one of which will be regulation in size to accommodate school tournaments. The other fields will be age-appropriate, one or two for each age group.
