CARROLL COUNTY (May 5) — The polls in Carroll County were quiet as only 1,288 voters cast ballots in the May 5 party primary elections for local county offices. That compares to 2,396 just four years ago. The lone contested race was that for the Republican nominee for sheriff with Eric W. Sawyers claiming the victory over Timothy W. Pratt, 662 to 341 for the Republican nomination.

Others winning uncontested party nominations in uncontested races for the Republican nomination were:

Joseph Butler, mayor; Darrell Ridgely, Commission District 1; Daniel Lee Willman, Commission District 2; Brandy Boyd, Commission District 3; Morris Rogers, Commissioner District 4; Jimmy Crossett and Cyril Ostiguy for Commission District 5 - where 3 will be elected in the general election; Madison Endres, Commission District 6; Lori Dillahunty, Commission District 7; Jay Phipps, Commission District 8; John Austin, Property Assessor; Sarah Bradberry, Circuit Court Clerk; Brandy Boyd, Hollow Rock-Bruceton School District 16; Eric Daniel Gonzalez, Hollow Rock School District 16 at-large; Keith Hollowell, South Carroll School District.

In the Democrat Primary, Jimmie Sue Staten, Commission District 7; Natalie Porter, Register of Deeds.

Many candidates qualified as independents in specific races and will face these party-nominated candidates in the August general election.
