Trezevant Water Rates to Increase
From the Jun 18, 2024 e-EditionTREZEVANT — The Town of Trezevant’s water rates will increase by 25 percent on July 1, following action of by the Mayor and Council in two different readings and a public hearing.
Robert Kelley with the Rural Communities Assistance Program conducted a cost analysis on the city’s water and sewer department.
The increase will add $13 to the minimum water bill.
The town is operating with aging infrastructure, a problem experienced by many small municipalities and water systems.
By comparison, Gleason recently raised its rates.
Effective July 1, residents of Gleason will face a 33% water rate increase. The increase comes at the recommendation of the Tennessee Comptroller’s office. Following a rate study, the City of Gleason was faced with the inevitable decision to increase the rate.
Over two years the City of Gleason’s Water Department/Utilities showed a decrease in revenue. With two consecutive years of “negative statutory change in net position” a utility system will be referred to the Tennessee Board of Utility Regulation (TBOUR).
Huntingdon raised its water rates by three percent and has allocated millions of dollars to upgrade its water and sewer system.
In Dresden, water and sewer rates increased 20 to 21 percent, effective July 1.
