ATWOOD (May 2) — West Carroll Special School District Board of Education approved replacing seven heating and cooling units and purchasing a new marquee sign in front of the central office building adjacent to the new U.S. 79 bypass and the existing SR 77 intersection.

Newbill Heating and Air was awarded the bid to install seven heating and air units for $44,300, compared to Radius Industrial’s unsuccessful bid of $44,974. There are four units at the elementary school and three at the primary school.

A new digital information sign was approved to be installed at the Central Office. GSC Signs of McKenzie bid on three sizes from $39,190 to $54,237. City Signs of Jackson bid on four signs from $56,338 to $92,170. The bid authorized Preston Caldwell, director of schools, to work with GSC, the previous supplier for the three school sites’ signs. Federal COVID relief funds, known as ESSER funds, were used to pay for the HVAC units and the signs. All ESSER funds must be depleted by June 30.

The board honored Mrs. Kay Story and Mrs. Sherry Cockrill upon their retirement. Story worked 18 years as a custodian, and Cockrill 39 years as a teacher and guidance counselor.

Tenure was granted to Brittany Socbey and Mrs. Kristin Mansfield.

The board approved the resignations of Michael Nelson and Amanda Noles.

The FBLA was approved to travel to the National Leadership Convention in Orlando.
