West Carroll School Board Approves Bid for Culinary Room Learning Tables
From the Oct 8, 2024 e-EditionATWOOD (October 3) — West Carroll Junior Senior High School is adding a set of four culinary room learning tables following the approval by school board members of a bid by JC Educational.
Out of six bids submitted, culinary instructor Kristin Lindsey recommended the Paris-based company’s bid of $24,396.48. JC Educational’s bid includes installation, which some other bidders did not. ISM grant funds will cover the expense.
According to Lindsey, the tables are similar to STEM tables used in other classes and will greatly increase the space in the culinary classroom.
At the Thursday meeting, board members also approved overnight trips for the district’s Beta Clubs to the convention in Nashville in November.
Director of Schools Preston Caldwell also submitted for approval the annual Local Education Agency (LEA) Compliance Report and Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement (TISA) Accountability Report.
Caldwell noted that the district was “in compliance” with the LEA.
For TISA, the director outlined the progress and targets for the three required targets, plus a fourth self-imposed by the district.
First, for third grade ELA TCAP proficiency, the district achieved 34.7 percent last year and set a goal for 2024-5 of 40.09 percent.
Second, overall literacy for K-12 was at 31.4 percent last year. The new goal is 33 percent.
Third, overall numeracy for K-12 was at 14 percent last year. The new goal is 28 percent.
Finally, West Carroll added a goal for 74 percent of students to graduate as “ready graduates,” achieving one of four objectives: a 21 ACT score, two early post-secondary opportunities, an industry certification or a 31 ASVAB score. Last year, 71.4 percent of graduates qualified.
The meeting adjourned after 45 minutes.
The West Carroll school board meets again Thursday, November 7 at 6:30 p.m.
