Nashville Area Weather Radio Service Down May 19-21
From the May 20, 2025 e-EditionAccording to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), all NOAA Weather Radio Transmitters serviced by U.S. National Weather Service Nashville will be down Monday, May 19 through Wednesday evening, May 21. This includes transmitters in Clarksville, Waverly, Nashville, Centerville, Lobelville, Clifton, Lawrenceburg, Hickman, LaFayette, Cookeville and Spencer.
TEMA encourages citizens to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and updates, especially with the potential for strong to severe storms during this period. Options include emergency alerts, weather apps, social media, local TV and radio and trusted online sources.
This outage is due to a technology upgrade to NWS Nashville’s Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System, or AWIPS. NWS uses the computer system to display and integrate life-saving weather and water information to the public.
During this weather radio downtime, forecast operations will be conducted by the service back-up offices in NWS Knoxville/Morristown. Weather alerts and warnings will still be issued by the NWS.
