CHATTANOOGA (December 2) — The McKenzie Rebel football team has brought gold home to McKenzie just in time for Christmas. The Rebels defeated Clay County Friday afternoon, 34-14. This was McKenzie’s first state championship win for football in three appearances at the state championship round, 2007, 2021, and 2022.

Average gasoline prices in Tennessee decreased 9.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.72 per gallon today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 47.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 26.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 14.1 cents in the last week and stands at $4.77 per gallon.

GERMANTOWN (May 5) — Kallie Berry, a nurse at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County was nominated for the 2023 University of Tennessee Health Science Center Nurse Hero Award at the 2023 NightinGala. Berry was one of 60 nurses in the midsouth to be nominated for the Florence Nightingale award.

HUNTINGDON (June 28) — The 2022-23 fiscal year budget for the Town of Huntingdon was delayed due to “extenuating circumstances” caused by the budgets of the Carroll County Watershed Authority and the town being associated. The Watershed is selling the Carroll County 1000-Acre Lake to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. That transfer has not been completed but is anticipated in July.

Multiple Charges — McKenzie Police Sgt. Cody Coleman initiated a traffic stop on a Ford Ranger for a display of plates violation early Sunday morning, November 6 on Hwy 22. Bryer Caswell, 27, of Lexington, was driving on a suspended license for failure to appear in Henry County Court. The vehicle tag was from another vehicle and the original plate was expired in 2016. Caswell was cited for Driving on Suspended – 1st Offense, Expired Registration, Financial Responsibility Violation, and Unlawful Removal of Plates.

Theft — December 5, Cody Roberts reports his two shotguns stolen from the backseat of his vehicle. Robert stated the two guns, were in a soft gun case and his vehicle was unlocked. The break-in happened around 4:30 p.m.

Economic Development Council recently appointed Mrs. Cheryl Oglesby-Townes as the executive director of Northwest Tennessee Economic Development Council located in Dresden. Northwest Tenn. Economic Development Council is the local Community Action Agency in Northwest Tennessee serving the counties of Benton, Carroll, Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Henry, Lake, Obion and Weakley counties.

Many of the children taken into TCHS’s custody were born to unmarried mothers, who were coerced or deceived into relinquishing their parental rights.
