HUNTINGDON (January 8) — The Carroll County Commission met Monday, January 8 with a light agenda. Renee Meyers, Carroll County’s Veterans Service Officer spoke to the Commission about the Carroll County Veterans Coalition. Myers stated that she was soliciting money from the legislative body but wanted buy-in and support for the organization. Coalition’s mission is to reduce isolation and increase mental health support for veterans and their families in Carroll County. more
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Department of Education released the 2022-23 School Letter Grades to provide a provide a snapshot of how each school in the state is doing in meeting the state’s expectations for learning, including student achievement and academic growth measures for all schools, as well as a measure of college and career readiness just for high schools. more
Ryan French of McKenzie is the new sergeant over Henderson County. The McKenzie native and current resident will lead the team of THP officers in that county. more
The State Review Board of the Tennessee Historical Commission is meeting Wednesday, January 24, to discuss eight sites from across the state that may be placed on The National Register of Historic Places. Of those eight nominees, McKenzie’s historic Webb School is one of those to be discussed. more
McKENZIE (January 8) — McKenzie Special School District Board of Education held a special board meeting and voted against the Educational Freedom Scholarship Act as proposed by Governor Bill Lee. more
McKENZIE (January 15) — Carroll County school children won’t see the inside of a classroom until at least Friday of this week due to inclement weather. Carroll County schools announced Monday that schools are closed Tuesday through Thursday; a determination about Friday classes will be made later in the week. As of Monday, Weakley County schools announced closings for Tuesday and Wednesday. Henry County schools will be closed Tuesday. more
McKENZIE (January 11) — On July 1, 2024, residents within the city limits of McKenzie will begin seeing RaeKar garbage trucks picking up their solid waste. During Thursday’s meeting of the McKenzie City Council, the board in a split decision voted to move away from Republic Services and retain RaeKar Waste Management as its garbage collection company. more

McKENZIE (January 8) — After a tough loss to McEwen on Friday, January 5, the Lady Rebels found themselves battling a talented Henry County Lady Patriots team on Monday, January 8 at McKenzie. An overtime effort earned the Lady Rebels a 59-57 victory on the Lady Pats. more
CAMDEN (January 12) — Friday evening the Huntingdon Mustangs and Fillies traveled to Camden for a district contest against the Lions. The Fillies extended their season record to 16-4 with their 63-25 win against the Lady Lions. In addition to dominating on the court, the Fillies were 11 of 13 from the free throw line in their decisive victory. The Mustangs dropped to 6-14 for the season with a narrow 67-64 loss to the Lions. With six district games remaining in the season, the Fillies are 2-0 within the district, and the Mustangs are 1-1. more
HENDERSON (January 13) — The Bethel Wildcats ran into a hot shooting Freed-Hardeman team Saturday in Henderson. The No 11 Lions shot 60 percent from the floor and knocked down 16 three-pointers enroute to a 100-54 win over the Wildcats. more

Driving on a Revoked License — Mark A. Thomas, 39, Winchester Road, Memphis was charged with Driving on a Revoked License - Third Offense on January 9. more
Drug/Narcotic Violation — Rachel Lopez, 29, of McKenzie, was arrested on January 4. Sgt. Scott stopped a vehicle for a light law violation. While speaking to the driver, he could smell the odor of marijuana from the vehicle. A search was performed and two grinders, two pipes, a tray, rolling papers, and 3 grams of marijuana was located inside the passenger’s purse which was Rachel Lopez. more
